Continuously Under Construction 4 - Eel Trap

In 2021 Bronwyn Razem, Gunditjmara Artist and Master Weaver, and Angela Foley, Native Grassland Specialist worked with RMIT students on a large-scale outdoor weaving project. This was the fourth in the Continuously Under Construction series, conceived in partnership with These Are The Projects We Do Together, Testing Grounds and Dr Olivia Hamilton, and supported by RMIT academic teaching team.

'Continuously Under Construction' 2021 brought together over 100 first-year Interior Design students on their first day of the university to create a large scale project with master weaver Bronwyn Razem. This is an important moment for students, coming together on their first day of University and sharing the cultural knowledge of traditional weaving, experiencing the importance of collaboration and the capacity of a large group working together to realise a significant project in a single day.

‘Continuously Under Construction' projects are active and participatory and demonstrate to the students the necessity and rewards of being engaged, socially and practically, with the community and the industry they are entering. Starting their university career with an indigenous lead creative project foregrounds a commitment from the course to making indigenous culture and knowledge foundational in their design education.
